Get the most out of Nosara

Nosara is hot, and the beaches don’t give you much shade. Playa Guiones is wide and open. By late morning the sun is straight overhead and there isn’t a tree line to hide under. Come prepared, or the best beach day turns into an early retreat.

Set up before you sit down

Bring the shade with you. A beach setup is the difference between a long, easy afternoon and a melted hour.

The beach bundles put umbrella, chairs, and a cooler together if you don’t want to build it piece by piece. Rent it for the days you’re actually on the beach.

Downtown is a walking town

Guiones is made for wandering. Cafes, shops, the main beach road. It is also sunny, dusty, and longer on foot once someone small is done. A stroller isn’t a nice-to-have there. It’s how you stay out past lunch.

Rent a BOB all-terrain stroller by the day. Big wheels, real suspension, and a front wheel you can lock when the path gets rough. One day for town, or the whole week if you’re out every morning.

• El Ruco sits at the main entrance to Playa Guiones, open from breakfast on, and easy with kids after the beach

• Sendero is the sit-down dinner in downtown Guiones, patio under the trees

• La Cosecha is farm-to-table and will do a kids’ menu if you ask

Come prepared

Hat, sunscreen, more water than you think, and shade you brought yourself. The light is beautiful. It is also serious.
