Playas del Coco with Little Ones: A Family Beach Week Made Easy
Playas del Coco is one of the easiest places in Guanacaste to bring small kids. It's a short drive from Liberia airport, the town is relaxed, and the sunsets over the bay are the kind you'll talk about at home. With a little planning, the week can feel as easy as it looks in the photos.
Pick your beach hours
The Guanacaste sun is strong, and the middle of the day is the hardest stretch for little ones. Families usually do best on the sand in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Leave midday for naps, lunch, and the pool. Whatever hours you choose, bring your own shade: an umbrella, a cooler of cold water, and a comfortable spot to sit turn an hour on the beach into a whole afternoon.
Tommy Bahama Umbrella
Beach shade with a sand anchor to help keep your spot comfortable and secure.
Rio Backpack Chairs
Comfortable chairs for the grown-ups, with backpack straps that make the walk to the sand easy.
Coleman Cooler
Ready with cold water and snacks so you can head straight to the beach.
Beach Wagon
Load up the chairs, cooler, towels, toys, and everything else you need for the day.
Or book a beach bundle and get the umbrella, chairs, and cooler in one go.
Walking around town
Coco is good for wandering: the beachfront, ice cream, a stroll at sunset. Little legs tire fast in the heat, though. An all-terrain BOB stroller handles sand, uneven sidewalks, and gravel, and has room underneath for everything you're carrying. With two kids, the double version means nobody gets carried home.
Making the villa work
Vacation rentals are beautiful, but they're rarely set up for babies. Before you arrive, think about how the day will run: where they'll sleep, where they'll eat, and how you'll get them in the car.
Sweet Dream Bundle
A comfortable sleep setup with a playard and mattress, ready for naps and nights away from home.
Graco High Chair
A convenient spot for meals and snacks, so little ones can settle into the family routine.
Diono Convertible Car Seat
A practical car seat for the drive from Liberia and day trips around Guanacaste.
A simple gear plan for the week
Arrival day: a car seat for the ride from Liberia, plus a Pack 'n Play waiting at the villa
Beach days: a beach bundle and a wagon
Town days: the stroller
Every day: the high chair, sunscreen, hats, and more water than you think you'll need
Rent only what your trip needs, for the days you'll use it.
